FAO Global completes successful Mongolia trip

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia – During the week of November 18th, FAO Global led a trade delegation to Ulaanbaatar , Mongolia and represented the Asian American Chamber during a 3-day conference. The event was sponsored by the Mongolian Brand Association, a NGO consisting of more than 200 small & medium sized enterprises (SMEs). During the visit, FAO Global met with over 30 Mongolian companies, learning first-hand the opportunities and challenges facing the landlocked country. The delegation included FAO Global’s CEO, Brandon Hughes & Head of Asia-Pacific Strategy, Cameron Johnson, Gary Ross, Managing Director of Ross Law Group, and Joel Gallo, CEO of Columbia China League Business Advisory Co.

MOU Supporting Small & Medium Size Enterprises

FAO Global signed a joint Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Mongolian SME Fund and the Mongolian Brand Association to help develop opportunities abroad for Mongolian SMEs. To support the member companies, FAO Global heard presentations from 23 companies and offered advise and guidance on international strategy, export consideration, and operational improvements that could be made. For many companies, this was their first chance to meet international consultants and have their business plans critiqued.

Import Opportunities

Mongolia produces a wide range of sustainable products. FAO Global toured cashmere firms, a tanning factory that made semi-finished & finished leather goods, a milk and snack factory, and a design house. Many of the firms offered highly competitive products but did not have the experience or connections to establish a strong presence abroad. However, many of the products sampled would be well received in the U.S. market.

Impressions

“I was blown away by the level of quality products that were made through sustainable means. Mongolia offers many competitive opportunities for import into the United States.”

Brandon Hughes, FAO Global CEO

“The entrepreneurial spirit is thriving in Mongolia. Most companies we visited have world class quality and are excited to do business in the US. “

Cameron Johnson, FAO Global Head of Asia-Pacific Strategy

Mongolian businesses, especially those in the textile, leather and food industries are very ambitious competitive and savvy.  Though under the radar in the past, the new generation of entrepreneurs at the helm of these firms are intent on changing that and making the world take note of Mongolia once again.”

Joel Gallo, CEO of Columbia China League Business Advisory Co.

Moving Forward

FAO Global plans to work with the Mongolian Brand Association and the Mongolian SME Fund to develop further training and export events for Mongolian companies. The goal will be to make international markets accessible to all sizes of companies.

Sponsorship to support this training is welcome.

FAO Global will continue to offer global advisory, market research, and management consulting services to individual companies and looks forward to helping more companies develop abroad.
